This has been an exciting year for Kaseware! A big part of that excitement has been learning the different ways our solutions are deployed by organizations around the world to fight against fraud. As Fraud Week 2019 comes to a close, we wanted to share examples of Kaseware’s fraud-fighting features. Here are some of our most popular examples.
Data Extraction and Search
Kaseware uses robust technologies to make all data in the system searchable. Additionally, it automatically identifies the relationships between different data points. As clients use the system for routine business purposes like documentation, case management, GSOC operations and reporting, it automatically becomes more powerful. This makes it easy for an investigator to find hidden truths in the data through simple search and visualization tools.
This year it has been thrilling to hear the same thing over and over again from our corporate security clients. That it drastically saves them time to be able to quickly identify an IP address, license plate, person, email address or a financial record from previous fraud-related cases.
Intelligence Collection

The value of intelligence is unprecedented in today’s world of corporate security. Analysts and investigators have access to dozens of tools for collecting intelligence related to fraud. But this access generally requires logging into multiple different systems to conduct a search or query. The results are then manually compiled into a word document or shared drive, and usually through unsecure methods like copy/paste and downloads. What ultimately happens to that copied data on your computer’s clipboard or in your downloads folder?
Alternatively, clients using Kaseware can conduct open source intelligence (OSINT) searches directly from their investigation in the system. This data is safely integrated and — as described above — easily searchable. Users can then quickly find the relations between data from other sources like case management, incidents managed in the GSOC, HR reports, ERP systems, server logs, and email records. In summary, people who commit fraud generally leave a trail. Being able to find and follow that trail in one system is invaluable.
Data Analysis

Recently we launched several projects with major corporations to analyze their historic data from systems they use for case management, threat assessments, security incident reports, and supply chain management. The Kaseware data migration tool enabled users to easily create a “profile” for each type of data from each system. Once migrated, the value in the results of the analysis were immediately made clear.
Having all of an organization’s data centralized in one analytic system that includes an investigations module, proved to be quite capable. Investigators were immediately able to identify things like recurring incident types across broad geographic areas, repeat offenders, most common types of fraud, and most heavily targeted locations or services. Subsequently, the users then launched investigations in the Kaseware system to further investigate the findings of their analysis.
Slip and Fall Injury Claims
One of the most fascinating use cases we learned this year was the identification and investigation of fraudulent injury claims. The all-to-common “slip and fall” injury claim may seem innocent. But with data analysis, OSINT and full-searchability of an organization’s data, signs of fraud can start to emerge. Is the same attorney or network of attorneys representing the claimants? Are the claimants connected to each other through past claims at different locations? Is there a network of claimants that can be discovered through OSINT collection? All valid questions that when properly investigated can combat and eliminate fraud.
